The Hyatt regency located in Kyoto is a great location. It’s situated within a few minutes of Kyoto station, which will provide you with access to nearly all Kyoto has to offer. You can go to Arashiyama to look at the Bamboo forest, or you can head south to Fushimi Inari Taisha for the ultimate tori gate experience! It has the familiar omotenashi, with comfortable rooms, and decent breakfast and room service.

The hotel is located in sanjusangendoawari. Right next to the sanjusangendo Temple, and the Japanese red cross society. You won’t see young Japanese women walking in kimono here, but it’s a good base if you want to ride around and see the city.

Thanks to my globalist status, I was upgraded to a suite. The bed was serviceable. I enjoyed the arrangement of furniture. There was a separate dining room that we utilized for room service. There were plenty of drawers for clothes, but there was a notable lack of outlets. Bring an extension cord, I guess. The view outside to the Japanese garden was pleasant, and I enjoyed the fact that there was a humidifier in the room. Finally, no more dry lips. In previous hotels, I had lips dryer than a 105-degree August in Northern Texas.

The bathroom
The bathroom

The bathroom had a standout feature of a huge private onsen bath which could probably have a whole family. With a nice pressurized shower adjacent to it. I enjoyed swimming in it. There were also 2 mirrors you could use to make sure you get your back and don’t miss a spot.

The Gym

The gym was delightful, actually. They had those lifestyle machines you could use your Apple Watch on. I also liked how big it was, it may not be equinox quality, but I could see it being an LA fitness or Gold gym standard.

Breakfast

The breakfast was also good. I wasn’t blown away by the variety or quality, but the service was excellent, and for hot dishes they had more than just egg. You know, they always ask what came first, the chicken or the egg? In the Japan, that’s not even a question- it’s always just an egg. I did, however, enjoy the grilled ham with the honey mustard. Although they called it honey mustard, you could mistake it for a Carolina Gold BBQ sauce. Oishii

Overall Score

If I had to give this hotel a ranking of all the hotels I have been in, as of November 2023- I would rank this somewhere in the middle of the pack. I wasn’t disappointed in anything, but I wasn’t really impressed either. The service was great, the food was good, the location was good. Countless things to do around, plenty of good places to eat nearby.
