I stayed at the Hyatt Centric Kanazawa while I stayed in Kanazawa, and I got to say I completely underestimated Kanazawa. The city seems to revolve around the station. The buildings and surroundings are very new and upscale, there are lots to do and eat around. You’d be remised if you thought you were in Osaka or Tokyo, it’s packed.

The Location

Fountain near the station

The Hotel is located adjacent to the Kanazawa station. Within 1 minute of walking, you can exit the station and see the hotel on the right. It is right next to the sister property Hyatt House if you need more space, and the two hotels share the same breakfast benefit. There is also a food hall aptly named food club and a 7 – floor mall with a movie theatre and lots of shopping all within single digit minutes away.

The Service

This being a category 4, I didn’t have high expectations for the service, but they met them. They delivered the requested room service quickly, as well as attempted to clean the room. Albeit, they could not as I was still asleep inside when they came. Something that threw me off when I first checked in, they mentioned that they get very busy for breakfast and that we needed to make a reservation the day before to eat breakfast. When I went down to the restaurant, I was told I didn’t need an appointment- I just needed to show up. Which is correct?

Turns out it was the restaurant

But something they didn’t have to do but was super sweet, was being upgraded to their suite.

The Room

Living room area
King Bed

Since I am a globalist, I was again upgraded to their suite. It was a very nice room with a nice sofa and brand-new TV’s in both the bedroom and the living room. I greatly enjoyed the space. The bathroom was pretty impressive with a rainfall shower, as well as a separate bathroom for guests. The one thing I didn’t like was the view. I got a good view of…the train station. Wohoo! (Not)

The Breakfast

The breakfast was actually excellent! You won’t believe this, but even though the hotel is one of the cheapest I stayed in (around $100 a night), the breakfast was vast in choice and high in quality. I got meat, cereal, fruit, all the things I wanted. I specifically want to call out the seafood pilaf. Oishi!

I would compare it to the Conrad in Osaka

Yes, I know, that GOOD

So, maybe Conrad can get even better since we have a Centric catching up, eh?

Overall Score

I would have given this hotel a 3 for meeting expectations. But they went above that for the upgrade (+1), and the breakfast was, in fact, dizzyingly good (.5), that would make this hotel an excellent value for those of you wanting to check out Kanazawa.

The Hyatt Centric Kanazawa is a brand-new hotel with plenty of staff, and even more visitors! Convenient access to the station, local shopping, and good food nearby make this a great way stop on your trip around Japan.
