What can I say? This year I have had the pleasure of both flying Skytrax’s number 1 airline Singapore Air in business class, as well as Skytrax’s number 3 airline All Nippon Airways. ANA is a special airline and always a treat to fly. Today’s post will go into detail on my thoughts flying the airlines and what I think overall about it, in terms of a score.

The Seat

The seat was large and the seatbelt was nice. I felt secure and I rather enjoyed the middle aisle. The interesting bit was is if you are flying with a companion. Generally you put yourself in the middle to be next to that person, but oddly I was met with an irreconcilable barrier which sort of spoiled some of the fun. The seat itself was comfortable..for the first few hours of the flight. I was in the air for 10 hours so my bum started to take a bit of a beating near the end. I felt like a young child who just failed the 3rd grade, and my parents were not too happy about it.

The Food

The food was indeed next level. I was skeptical that ANA would be able to keep up with their Malay rivals but was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the Japanese entree versus the international one and my taste buds and satiety thanked me for that.

Jarai’s stomach liked that

My meal consisted of mackerel cooked in some sort of ginger jus, steamed rice, and miso. Of course I had sushi as an appetizer before hand.

Later on, about 2 hours before landing we had a second meal, different albeit just as good. I could go on and on about how great and delectable the food was like Utada, but unfortunately this is not the one.

The Service

The service started before I even checked in. While waiting in line to check my bag, I got a special show where all of the ANA employees responsible for checking us in safely, lined up in the front, said some words and bowed in unison. It was a sight to behold.

After that splendid reveal, I was checked in using the usual suspects (aka my passport and my charming smile). They explained where the lounge was

This is business after all

And I was on my merry way.

The next chance I got to take part in the fantastic service was when I got on the plane. The drinks were out swiftly, and within few rounds I could feel the plum wine and knew I was in for a great time.

The Flight attendants were very attentive. I never had to ask for anything, they just brought it, and the only time I needed to say anything it was to vigorously thank them for their thoughtfulness and care. I felt like they truly made an effort to treat me, memorizing my name and all.

I touched on the food earlier, but even when bringing that out they set my table, and made sure I didn’t want or need for anything. Truly exceptional.

Overall Score

After everything I described, do you really think I’d give this airline anything lower than a 5/5? Your head must still be in the clouds. But even though mine has long come back down, I will always remember the pinnacle of service that is ANA.

5/5
